How To Get Good Sleep When Stressed

Life is a constant ebb and flow consisting of happiness and challenges that force us to grow. When these challenges come up, we often find ourselves becoming stressed, which in turn affects our sleep.

While you can’t control what happens in your day to day, you can control the things you do to help you get good sleep. We’ve put together a few pro tips to promote better sleep and wake up feeling rested.

Declutter Your Bedroom

I know I'm not only speaking for myself when I admit to struggling with organization, especially in the middle of a long work week. But unfortunately that seems to be the time we would benefit from staying tidy the most. The biggest thing I notice when I have a clean and organized room is how rested and calm I wake up.

Knowing that everything is in its place and your day is ready to get started is a really good feeling a lot of us tend to forget about.

There are many ways on how to declutter your bedroom, and most of them include getting rid of old belongings and finding better storage pieces to keep things tucked away. I love finding décor that brings a new life to a room, while simultaneously maximizing my storage space! Here is one of my favorite pieces, the Astral Plains 3 Door Accent Cabinet. This piece is so multifunctional and stylish, it can be used to achieve almost any look you're going for.

Adjust your posture while you sleep

Majority of people have spent their life laying flat on a mattress while they sleep. When really, the healthiest way to sleep is with your feet and torso elevated. Almost all beds are compatible with an adjustable base, the mechanism that allows you to rest ergonomically correct.

The effects of an adjustable base not only target mouth breathing, nasal drip, snoring and sleep apnea, but there are many other benefits that extend beyond your time sleeping on it. For example, it can improve your circulatory system by promoting healthy blood flow, and it can ease symptoms of COPD. All these health benefits, and it relieves back pain like a charm.

Another great way to adjust your posture in order to get the best sleep possible is to upgrade your pillow! Your mattress can be perfect for your body, but your neck still needs adequate support found in a quality pillow in order to be in line with your spine.

Is your mattress the right one for you?

Chances are, if you are struggling to get quality sleep no matter what you do, your mattress may be the culprit. Whether your mattress is sagging, stained, or not the right firmness, finding a new mattress should be one of your top priorities at this point.

Having the wrong mattress can cause an array of serious problems, such as depression, hygiene issues, allergies and even weight gain. We spend so much time in our beds, and if your mattress is failing, your body will have a hard time getting the rest it needs to maintain a healthy balance.

Conclusion:

Pin-pointing what is affecting your quality of sleep can be somewhat of a trial and error process, but after reading this blog, hopefully you feel more confident in what step to try next. Time doesn't stop moving, even when life gets a little tricky. This is why it is so important to make the most out of your sleep.

When we miss out on good sleep, it not only makes us feel less rested the next day, but it has an exponential effect on your overall health. The first step to a balanced life is taking your sleep seriously, and when you do, you’ll be able to take on life’s stress a whole lot easier.
